|
|
If anyone hates the glossy sparkle of their older Coyle kit, there is a way to make it look better.
In my hesitation to start back on my Sidkit, I disassembled my Coyle and took the Steyr body and the bulldog barrel and gave them a light sanding.
I don't know the grits, but they are very fine. I used the Testor's sanding films, the last three grits. This will take the shine off without taking the paint totally down.
The parts should look a dusty gray. Now for the cool part. Take some Novus plastic polish #2 and buff the parts. They will warm up and take on a sheen like metal.
Not a good pic, but gives you an idea:
I am also experimenting with weathering. I still haven't figured out how to weather without it looking deliberate, but I'm getting there. Again, if I scratch up the covers and ammo housing, they look like crap. I have very dull places next to shiny areas. However, if I buff with the Novus, it ties everything together and gives it a more uniform look.
Edit for spelling

Is this one of Coyle's plastic kits, or one of the metal ones? _________________

Hey sounds like a good plan. I have an old RC blaster which has that same finish - might give it a go.
The plastic polish - did you mean Novis or Novus as can only find a match on the latter?
Thanks,
Chris

It's one of his older resin blasters. Yes, it is Novus. I can't spell. |

Looks nice.
Seems as though there's yet another use for Novus. That stuff is great. _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing. . . |

Was there any problem with losing detail on the lettering? |

Not really because the grit of the sandpaper is so fine, it only removes the gloss of the finish. The numbers at the front right may have been affected a little because they are shallow to begin with. This was a very minor alteration, but just enough to kill that annoyingly fake looking gloss finish. |
