|
|
One year ago my BLADE RUNNER collection included 2 blasters (1 PKD from Rick Ross and 1 Sidkit's all metal), 2 patches, 4 ERTL diecast cars, a MEDICOM Spinner and various early 80's books and magazines devoted to the film.
Then, earlier this year I discovered propsummit and immediately registered !
Now, a few months later I have 6 more guns (2 PKD snubs, a Dentrinity snub, 2 Leon's concept blasters form Sidkit, 1 Syd Mead concept blaster from Sean Morgan), all metal FORCE and 99S badges, 2 wiskey bottles, 3 Cibi glasses, 2 decorative bottles, 1 Safex ashtray, a lot of clay pipes, a Deckard wallet, 2 opium duck weights, some new patches (Tyrell and Spinner), Spinner44's ID and VIDPHON cards, 10 art deco shot glasses, 3 Braun table fans, fake money, 3 genuine Boyards packs of cigarettes, 3 mini de Czar bottles, Beastmaster's photo set, Snake pit matches... and I've produced the UNICORN SET myself during some long, looooong weeks, just to bring my little stone to the hobby !
I'm very happy to be here (like a kid in a candy store) BUT I'm almost broke now so I ask you a question :
is this place HEAVEN or HELL ???
(and I don't want to talk here about my girlfriend's reactions each time she discovers new additions to my BLADE RUNNER collection...)

Heaven and Hell.
Heaven when you have the funds and get whatever you want (wife/girlfriend doesn't mind).
Hell when you don't have the funds and you feel like you're missing out on all the good stuff.
Hey, we're all in the same boat. |

propsummit ... "its like having an itch you can never scratch."
i wouldn't trade it for the (real) world, mate!
i mostly lurk (i only contribute when i have something perhaps slightly worth saying) ... but you can be sure i come here every single day for updates, insights, and the occasional lead on a prop that i wish i could i could afford...
i love this place. my wife - not so much.

I want stuff but kind of don't mind doing without in equal proportions.
My BR 'prop' collection? let me see.
Two EBH gift shop 16x16 tiles, 4 Cibi glasses, and er... oh yeah! a yellow tipped clay pipe that may or may not have been 'liberated' from the BR set.
And thats it! haha. I'm just here for the vibe and the occasional bit of detective work.
I was SOOOOOO tempted by the amazing JW bottle but I chickened out for fear of getting hammered on import tax and/or breakages. |

Yeah, I remember this, you were supposed to post a pic of it in the devoted thread !!! (would still like to see it !)
I'm here for the detective work too, that's a lot of fun... but a lot of BR related objects are beautifull (Braun fans, shot glasses, opium weights, etc) so each time I'm tempted to buy one... and display them around in my home, like other cool things I find from time to time (anatomical models, dentist table, japanese paper lamps, etc...). _________________ THE FUTURE IS A THING OF THE PAST |

Its heaven when you cruise in, and find that one prop that just adds that special something to your collection.
Its hell when that special something is so far outta your league that all you can do is think about how cool it would be to add that to the collection.
I'd love to redo all the walls in my place with Ennis Brown tile sets, but that's just not likely unless I win a mega lottery jackpot. _________________

You are right Fred... This is Hell in the Heaven, or viceversa... I don't know. Just a note. I need another home!!!!!
A complete PKD bibliography, in several languages.
More than 50 BR movies.... and same number in soundtracks....
Blasters? Are you talking about... blasters? Well, 4 blasters, 3 Leon's COP.... and one more blaster is coming on...
Pipes? Are you talking about PIPES????
There is the *incomplete* list: http://www.joanfuste.com/mybladerunner/wp-content/mybr.html
Not magazines, not all the movies, not all the comics, posters, photos, lobby cards in yet... but when I revise it, I think, "HELL! Where I am???"
I love Propsummit, and more, the people at!!!!
Oh, and aside metting people and making new frieds, I have a second collection, not less interesting: stamps from around the world! From countries I never thought to have any deal! India, Israel, Soutafrica, Australia, Finland, Iceland, Mexico, Turkey, Japan, China, Czech Rep., Liechenstein, Chile, .... a very large list... (yeah, US, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Poland, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Romania, Belgium, Austria, etc etc etc TOO.... )
This is a very large collection of stamps and other postal labels. One day I will put down all of them in a .... book!
Hell? Heaven? EDEN!!!! XD _________________

Well considering the fact that my Blade Runner collection used to all fit in one box a few years ago, I can say it could easily be either. I can only Hope my BR collection will never rival Star Wars collections of friends I know. They really do need more than one house for it all.
I always had searched for a place like this for years, so I feel very honoured to be a part of it.

Guilty
One thing's for sure, this place is heaven when it comes to free-flowing of information and resources. I'm much more inclined to share what I know/have here compared to some other forums where members horde information and/or resources. |

Everytime Ive tried to post in this thread it comes out two pages worth but i think ive got a hold on it.
Twelve months ago all i had was a BR movie poster, now a small room has been nearly filled. The Final Cut discs woke my dormant BR gene, it led me to the net which led me to O.Bs triumph which led me here,
HEAVEN. My only fear when i started was that going so deeply into the whole process of Blade Runner that it would detract from the simple magic
of just experiencing the movie and that it might soften the numbness that came when i saw it 25 years ago, but it hasnt, in fact the opposite. Had it turned out the other way it would have been HELL. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |
