I wonder if someday we should be able to mass produce BR tiles for our poor naked walls ?!...It seems that some guys had some female molds to do the job ...it would be great if someone could provides one of those or help us !

NICE JOB PHIL!!! this fella is offering his (what looks to be) nice mold up for us to do this once and for all. i dont have the skills - just the enthusiasm. if someone knows what to do with it, i will be the first to sign the interest list.

With a well drawn CAD file, I could get a mold made and churn them out like tupperwear. Ribs will be built into the back to prevent them from twisting, and back filled with expanding foam to provide additional rigidity, if necessary.
But I'm worried about the lawsuit that may follow. Am I right to worry? |

I think a carefully chosen name for the product would go a long way towards avioding any unwanted attention. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

Yep, I looked into it a bit, and it depends on how the copyright by them is registered, Obviously using Frank LLoyd Wright in any manner in the name would be a problem. Plus if they are obviously supposed to be or look like Concrete blocks it could at least draw attention.
There are different types of Copywrights/patents and each has different lengths and protections. If it is a design patent, those last only a few years. Original works of art can be okay if used in different ways and and significantly altered or made as a parody.
Much Of the FLW protection I think does come from his name and the distinction that comes with that. Of course none of this would stop their lawyers if they get wind of it. If it is done mostly through the boards and done on a limited basis, I see no real problems with. I would suggest talking to a lwyer more about finding what registration for protection the FLW blocks might have first and see what is covered.

WOW, this is a cool thread. I have always wanted to do my house either like the Discovery in 2001 or in dark Blade Runner style. This is more feasible. I will take a few hundred of these.. |

Well, I came up with the "egg-carton" material to mass produce the tile, and just when I'd secured the interest with a company, they asked $ 4500 to start any mold/tiles...number of tiles were, of course, in the thousands for a single run ...sooo; for now it's dead in the water. www.kropserkel.com has some for sale (16x16)by the way. |

Yeah I know Neil...by the way, I should show you my collection of coffee cup made for left-handed people . My point is that even if you rotate the tile to move the square to the bottom left-hand side, it modifies the overall look of the design: FLLW made two molds; a left-hand side and a right-hand side as to create a mirror image You'll see that type of look in Ennis house. |
