This was posted on the RPF (Not by me) and thought i'd show it here incase anyone didn't see it.
The 2001 EVA pod appears in TPM...
Pretty cool.
This next part isn't so good
http://www.visual-memory.co.uk/faq/html/spacestation.html
This part is especially sad...
"I desperately wanted to take it home, but I only had a motor bike & a room 8 feet by 10 so it was not really workable. It was smashed up by kids a few days later." |

Well, this is kind of odd. I thought that Kubrick had all of the sets from 2001 destroyed after production wrapped. Specifically in order that no one could ever use them in another film. But it looks like the pod escaped for a while.

It isn't an original pod, but most likely made by someone on the film as an homage. It would be unlikely they shipped those out to Tunisia, if it had that much value. Even unlikely it could have been from 2010.

That's what people think on the RPF aswell.
Looks to me like it's CGI? |

According to Don Bies (the guy behind the R2D2)from Lucas Film; the pod was built by the prop dept. for this shot and is not from 2001/2010 or any other movies for that matter...hope it clears things up |

Thanks for the info Joberg, really glad to know no original props from Kubrick's masterpiece were used (or hurt !) in this really crappy movie !

It reminds me of the Millennium Falcon used in the city for Blade Runner. A guy in the model shop was making it for himself and then turned it into a building in in BR. It was never intended to be made for SW.
A cool tribute to the other movies and to their colleagues in the industry. Also a nice Easter egg for the fans.

lol.
I would have tried harder aswell.
Anything would have been better than what happened to it in the end.
Oh man, it hurts to think about it now |

The model of the Millenium Falcon that serves as a building in BR was built by modelmaker Bill George (the one who built the Spinner). |

Yeah...and the Discovery (big scale)was left for a few weeks in a play-ground situated behind the studios so that children could play (destroy)it.
Kubrick learned about it and it was promptly removed and destroyed by studio staff. |
