$250K sounds pretty serious to me.

It is, but what IF a true collector saw that it was NOT as it was found and thus not still totally original (as I would) he might feel it was tainted and less valuable now that someone mucked around with it??

A guy repainted a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing with metal flake paint a $3000.00 paint job.
At a classic car auction that $3000.00 paint job DEvalued the car by $10,000.00 as it was not a stock type paint job.

I agree with Rich , for what it's worth, the 'hero' was refurbished at some time in the past - even 'Profiles in History' acknowledge that fact - so the gun is still not "original" -as it was at the end of the film, from what I know ( as my uncle worked on the film) from his diaries and what he had told me over the years , at the end of the film when Ridley Scott ordered the sets & props to be struck and destroyed, the gun was decomissioned ( the firing pin was removed, the barrel blocked and all the wires were cut to render the prop 'safe ' as per normal film production requirements if a weapon were produced specifically for a film . I don't know what happened to the prop after that , I speculate that along with some other bit's and bob's that did survive, they were 'acquired' and sold on to various collectors . At some point the 'hero' was refurbished - the photographic proof of that is quite evident - I suspect the weaver's knob was added along with the binding post and the grip repaired as well as the electronics being re-wired -prior to it ending up in the auction - Rich handled the 'original' at Worldcon , Karl Tate photgraphed it extensively , I don't know if Rich 'dry fired' the gun to see if it still operated mechanically, I'm sure he'll tell us if he did , and now Rich has made considerable improvements which I ( and all those Forum member's ) and everyone else will benefit from , several on this board already have produced excelent 'doppelganger' replicas - now we can get even closer, in look and feel to the 'original' hero - which puts a smile on my face , I can tell you !

being a one of a kind item, the "refurbishing" would not have affected the value much at all, since there aren't other better ones to buy elsewhere. Also according to Profiles in History staff, the only work done on it by them was a mild cleaning and oiling to prevent further rust, and the replacement of the wires, battery and the non functioning LED's. Since they used thicker wires, they had to put them in a different configuration that they had been unfortunately.

Two things.

First not everyone has sent me a email with their contact info and propsummit handle and their wishes for which model and when they would like to get it, either Jan or Feb or March...

The Deluxe will be made along side my building of my normal run of full finished models so will most likely be ready to start shipping in Feb and March.

Paymant will be asked for when your kit is ready to ship.

I like PayPal as it is a great record keeper.

Looking at the drill and tap needs and the Allen wrenches needed I come up with:
7 Taps
10 Wire sized Drill bits and one US standard drill, 11 drill bits..total.
And
5 Allen wrenches.
I am thinking of a group buy, I will see what I can get buying 30 to 50 of everything and then as only the costs for a tool kit.

What do you think of this??

The drills are: 20, 21, 30, 33, 35, 23, 45, 46, 50, 56, and 11/64
Taps needed are: 0/80, 2/56, 3/48, 4/40, 6/40, 8/32, 10/32
I have not got all the Allen wrenches sizes yet.

And for those with 4 x 36 or the 6 inch wide big belt sanders I will sell my special ordered 320 and 400 grit belts.. if needed.

Also for those in the UK and Japan I have made a mold for casting Plastic cartridges, as even owning unloaded rounds can cause trouble…

And a solid pewter barrel machined and drilled back apox. ½ the way back with the correct 44 bore is now standard. (And again less trouble in these countries…)

Also the new Steyr receiver will include real set screw not the last model cast in ones.

Also the instructions will be a set of pictures taken during a build of one of the latest models with notes and tips on how to best build these.

These will be posted on line for down loading.

And I will be here to answer questions and offer advice and help.

At this time I have by my count only received about 1/2 of the signer’s emails.

So I do not know who wants their model in Jan or Feb or March. Or which version and rather they want a stand or not.

I have created folders in my Outlook Email system for each month and with stands and the deluxe model. This lets me know who wants their model and track my filling orders.

I need those emails, please.

I even have a person who is going to make payments to pay for his kit. If you have tight times I can work with you...

I have been locating and ordering all the many parts I need for these based on the 30 count.

I am casting the new parts for these kits.

So if you on the list please send me your email if you have not done so yet, please include your contact info and which model and when you want it sent.

Rich, is it possible to post a picture of a raw cast part? say one that would need the most clean up. would be good to get an idea of how much work is needed as I can imagine like myself alot of people dont own a belt sander and will have to do alot of manual sanding/filing.

The toolkit sounds like a good idea, though how much extra do you think it will cost? otherwise I have lots of drills and allen keys that would probably fit the bill, but I dont have any taps, so they would be a necessity for me.
