Lovely job by the way , I do like the vid phone Idea ,you don't need to drill into the case to install a microswitch use the hinges and add a magnetic contact switch closed when shut, open when you lift the lid , you could supply power in the same way via the hinges like the NG Tricorder in StarTrek and you could animate the displays with lights and a countdown timer display using electoluminescent sheet and low profile led displays . I just wish I could get a Zero case here in the UK , but I'm still hopeful and still bidding as they come up ! Btw in the photo's the mat looks the same as the lining material in the real replicant file ! all you need is the Franklyn binder.

Very nice! You took an small idea and made it something very special. Not sure why you kept the pay phone billing info though? I guess he could be renting his case from the VidPhon company Laughing

The contact hinge idea is definately the way to go jonny but i would still have to drill at least one hole in the case to pass the power and neon wires to the inside of the case, i would want it all self contained. The mats similar to the binder but not identicle. Im waiting to see what form kurtyboys project will take as the correct binders are available locally.

I wanted to have some sort of writing on it Kubrick style, Im thinking the case would be police issue, specifically Blade Runners. Wanted to keep the card slot and incorporate spinner44.coms card, but that was drawing to long of a bow.

Finding the time to put ONE together is a feat in itself jameth. Its a fairly
easy process to put one together, its the painting of the lid that takes forever. Its alumimium paint and takes days to dry properly and you need at least four coats to get the right finish. If you want to do one, let me know and i`ll walk you through it, or if i do an "electric" version, you can have first option on the original.

No, you woudn't need to drill the case to run power to the lid, mount the power supply in the case base run the power positive to one hinge negative to the other , pick up the power from the hinge in the lid - you might have to isolate the wires with shrink wrap tube to stop any shorts from happening though , this is exactly how power is supplied to the Tricorder screen and LED's the battery is in the base unit a magnetic microswitch opens the circuit when the lid is raised and turns it off when the lid is closed.

Haliburton does not list Blade Runner as a film it has a briefcase in. Found here on their website. Not sure if anyone has seen this yet so here it is.

Went with a less is more approach to the look of the fantasy in built vid phon. Used a similar textured mat to the deleted scenes compendium
lining as the basis and just $8 in prints to pull it off.

Not wanting to damage the briefcase, i had to use double sided tape and velcro to hold it all together. In the future i might get the images printed on clear plastic film,
similar to the light boxes and place them on top of the thin lighting sheets and finish with some neon wire trim with an activator switch that would turn it off and on by
opening and closing the second lid.

This would mean drilling into the case and i dont want to do that at the minute.

What did you use for the lining like in the deleted file scene?? And where did you get it???

When you say PLY for the lid add on you don't meen plywood do you????

What brand Aluminum spray did you use???

Thanks

Tom

Tom,
The case has an "Elite" badge on the front. That and the zero engraving are the only visable registration.

The only reason i can think of BR not being listed on the Halliburton list is that the company wasnt involved in the process or perhaps because the case in BR was
modified and therefore not an official Halliburton product.
I dont see Fringe mentioned there either and they have one in shot every week.

I used a bath mat that i got from a franchised hardware store, Bunnings.
Yes, i used plywood for the lid, 3mm in fact. The brand of paint i used is called "fiddly bits" aluminium spray paint, its not a special kind of paint, just general household stuff.
Under the matting is some thin silver foil paper to give a mirror finish underneath. The second "lid" only has the foil and matting. For the pictures, i cut some document protectors to shape and placed them over the pics. Leave around 10mm around the borders so you can glue.
The top half of the case has a layer of 2mm cardboard underneath the fiol and matting to protect the case.
Heres a pic to show what i mean with the layering.
Used a slow bonding spay glue on all the matting, cardboard and foil.

I'm not sure how I missed this but I have to say it has me knocked out!!

Well done mate and even more so because you have taken this just that little bit further. Aside from a terrific collection you have there, this beauty has given you something uniquely special that's undeniably Blade Runner.

Congratulations and many thanks for sharing ..

Kind regards

MARK
