Wow juno, coming from the paper prop queen, that's quite a compliment, thanks
I didn't use an X-acto on them--I invested in a nice pair of little craft scissors. After cutting out a couple dozen, my hand said "ENOUGH!"
I like the idea of 2 thin sheets, but I've had good luck with the translucency with the heavy vellum. The clear coat literally "clears" it up a bit
Thanks David, I'm glad you like it. _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

I was waiting to see if people were interested...looks like they are!
Yes, I will be selling them...however, I've talked to Nexus6 about using the high-def screencaps he posted to try and make a better version, so I'd like to do those for selling as I want them to look the best they can! _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

I received one of these from Brian the other day. It was generously donated for participation in the blaster contest. (I know I PMd my thanks already, but thanks again! )
It really is a cool addition to my small but growing BR prop collection.
It turned out just great and would make a cool addition to any fan's prop display! _________________ I find your lack of faith disturbing. . . |

You're welcome, and I'm glad you like it.
When I can get the new ones done, I'll send "replacements" out to the contestants _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

I would have to say that what you have done is a breakthrough, and you have created an absolutely convincing piece. I am curious if you were able to get the iridescence in the prop in the paper as well? |

Thanks andy.
To some extent, but it's not a truly iridescent...I could probably mist the "pearl" paint over it to get the look, but I haven't tried it yet.
The translucency of the vellum is a big plus, but burnishing the clear coat really helps the light reflect & refract. The clear coat itself makes the colors look like they're "in" the paper, rather than "on" it. _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

Brian - Just wanted to say thanks again for the cool prop.
Mine showed up last Saturday, but I wasn't able to open the envelope and take a look at it until this morning.
You did a great job matching it up with the screencaps!

Okay, how much?
That is a great prop, it's one of those that are hard to believe haven't been done (and "Why didn't I think of that?!")
Can't wait to see the"revised" version!
At this point, investing in a die cutter may be wise, you might be making a LOT of them! _________________ "Your life as you know it is now over. You exist to service us" ~ newborn child to parent |

Thanks....no idea on pricing yet.
After cutting out a few myself, I'm thinking this may be offered as a "kit"..... _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

Shouldn't be a problem...if you make a miscut, just use a little bondo to patch it... _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

OK, a little later than I'd hoped, but I've got the hi-def versions done--the clear coat's been drying overnight, so I hope to get some pics up later today.
Went ahead and did a very light misting of the pearlescent paint on both sides before clear coating. It gave it a slight whitish tinge, with a little bit more opacity. _________________ - Brian (formerly ToothTech)

Was working on some graphics for a friend so I didn't get any cut out and comparison pics taken, but I did manage to click a shot of my original alongside the new one. Pic is raw..resized, but no color or liting adjustments. I'm pretty excited to see how it looks cut out and in different lighting--I'm hoping that the pearl coat will help prevent some of the color washing out in bright lighting, but we'll see!

I made mine in about an hour by cutting a piece of plastic from a drinks bottle, fine sanding it for that rough semi-opaque texture, then hand-panting the detail and varnishing. The paint gives it that bumpy texture look.
how much to post one of these to the uk? |
