Thanks for sharing Nick...interesting to see how some of the architecture of Japanese/Chinese/American Cities have influence this movie culture to name a few. On one side you have a clean future (2001/2010 Space Odessey movies or even the Minority Report or IRobot) and on the other side you have that used future, or let's say that society that is not that far away from our present state(BR, Alien)...maybe that's the appeal? Science/technology and the environment are the major staples in these stories as our society is transforming itself because of these major shakers/movers of our near future. |

Very early 90's. It is based off the *'Mean Streets' game code, which also had cover art that was an homage to BR.
I did a good amount of concept art doing many of the room layouts and designed a bunch of the vehicles. There is also a supposed to be a model of a spinner in the police chief's office bookshelf, but I don't think it shows. The two brothers who started Vicarious Visions were in high school at the time. They are now a top of the line game programming company. They used to have this game on their site, but not any more.

*The 'Mean Streets' game also had a sequel that was based somewhat on 'Total Recall' called 'Martian Memorandum'. |

Wow! That Mean Streets cover is hilarious! I love it.
That''s what I love about this topic. There were so many BR geeks during the 90's working for Video Games companies doing story and art development work that the elements just show everywhere. The 90's cyberpunk movement was a big deal and Blade Runner was the template for a lot of it.
It's also important to remember that BR was still basicly an underground film at that point. Star Trek and Star Wars were stil the face of science fiction and anime hadn't hadn't hit the mainstream yet. BR was for weirdos and art geeks even though it was constantly being reimagined and regurgitated for mainstream consumption.

I think I remember playing a few of these games. Of course we have to mention 'Snatcher' from the creator of 'Metal Gear Solid'. Blade Runner is still somewhat of a cult film. It just got recognition in on some top 10 lists. It still isn't a popular film along the lines of other Sci-Fi films. The only thing now with BR is that it isn't so unique anymore, now that it's style has been emulated so much in both video games and films in the past 2 and a half decades.

This topic brings back some memories.
I remember playing Nightlong when it came out. Loved it.
Love this topic.

And when you think that Ridley was greatly influence by Moebius and his art (as well as Bilal`s ) who`s the inventor of Cyberpunk? |

Okay here is SNATCHER first released in 1988 in Japan and a few years later in the US.
As said earlier this game was created by Hideo Kojima who would later become super famous for creating the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
I loved this game when it came out.
Several scenes even lift directly from the Syd Meade concept artwork-
In the game the villains are more terminator-like than BR's replicants-
People are "snatched" and replaced with cyborg duplicates.
You have a little robot assistant named "Metal Gear" that acts as a walking ESPER of sorts. Pretty cool!
Your gun is very PKD-esque.
Your "turbocycle" is a spot on match for a spinner...
Another Syd Mead painting turned into a background...
Then a guy who looks like Roy Batty mixed with Sting from Dune shows up.
COOL GAME.

I cannot emphasize Deus Ex: Human Revolution enough.
It just bleeds BR from every oriface. I've found a lot of games/virtual environments that have gotten me ridiculously close to feeling like I'm in 2019 LA. But this game will take the cake. The depth and atmosphere look stunning. Will probably be my favorite game of all time :> _________________
