Exciting indeed! I don't believe that Ridley moved any wall in the apt., he just moved furniture/objects around. |

Walls were certainly movable. They had to be in order to film from different angles, and the ceiling was removable in sections as well. They very likely had an apartment layout that was realistic to start with, but I believe not all of the rooms were finished, and Ridley was notorious for changing his mind on the sets right before filming. We know for a fact he did it in Sebastian's apartment, and even said he didn't care for architectural authenticity, when asked about why Sebastian's apartment looked nothing like the Bradbury, and why it ended up several stories higher when he climbed out the window.
Still most of the apartment looks as if it was to meant to follow a floor plan, but some of it may have served double duty. I find it interesting that when edited it was made to look like the piano and bed were in the same room when Rachael sat down to play it. Probably only editing for the sake of time flow, and not for the sake of giving us an accurate space. It is probably why it was so tricky to figure out the layout of this place in the first place. Thus the reason for creating the second room/bedroom in order to fix the discrepancies. I think the balcony as well had to be rethought to make work. I think that is what makes Ben's work on this so great, is that he made the place work, and made it real.

Agreed that most of the sets are going to be with removable walls/ceiling, etc...
As for SRS...I don't know if my theory holds any water, but when I saw his comment concerning the set of the Nostromo, it was the idea that the cast/crew were inside a real ship and the confinement of something real (claustrophobia certainly plays a part in Alien).
Hand held camera shots, tripod, Steady-Cam and the rare dolly were used when possible (since no walls/ceiling moved).
I thought the same about Deckard's apt. Look at behind-the-scene pics and you'll see that the crew/cast/camera is crammed into the image (specially the scene with Deckard kissing Rachael in the corridor).
Some angles could've been shot from the open door, but in those b-t-s pics, no walls have been moved.
I think it gives the Director/DP/Camera Op. an opportunity to "feel" the scene and to give another type of experience to the actors on set, but also to the spectators in general (while giving the know-how to the crew of working in tight spaces).
Eager to hear other thoughts on that

i am spending the next two weeks inking and tweaking the final version of the apartment layout. I will do a run of these in 24x36 if people are interested. I will also include the sketchup file to allow more personal work since i am moving on to the animation sets. PM me if you are interested so i can get a head count to the printer. cost TBD _________________ I've had people walk out on me before, but never when i was being so charming |

I really think he should have access to the stairwell on his floor. I think a hallway continues to the other side of the stairwell. Hypothetically anyway.

ok... i have six sheets of drawings. I am asking a fair price of $150 for the set, which includes a packet of my research pictures and a SketchUp file for those who want to incorporate the layout in a game or just walk around the conapt in 3d. PM me if you want to see low-rez pictures of the set. _________________ I've had people walk out on me before, but never when i was being so charming |

Andy, i have thought long and hard on this... and i cannot thin of WHY an ext stairwell would exist at nearly 1000' up. Maybe i am over-thinking this. _________________ I've had people walk out on me before, but never when i was being so charming |
