Nice work.
I would suggest a correction, I did not do a Blade Runner Blaster until the mid 80s so you may want to correct that after all I would then predate the film's release....

Nicely done.
As a former professional proofreader, I'd be happy to work this over for you. (All the quotation marks are making me crazy!) No pressure.
One minor point of nomenclature (and I know I'm swimming upstream with this): it's not an ammo clip, it's a magazine. The M1 Garand, for example, uses a clip to hold the rounds for insertion into the rifle's magazine (a magazine is where ammo is stored). Whenever I hear anyone refer to a clip when he/she means magazine, I always say, "Clip? You mean for your hair?" It's a military thing.
Check this out: http://www.cabelas.com/gun-inventory---gonzales---fine-rifle---1466955-steyr222sl-gon.shtml
In the case of a magazine-loading rifle like the SL, ammo is loaded into the magazine and then the magazine is inserted into the magazine well (or mag well if you want to be cool). The bottom of the magazine is called the floorplate.
For what all that's worth.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Funny thing is that I had pondered the difference between Clip and Magazine, but knew most people here would not only not know the difference, but would think of a Magazine as something they would read, not load
My grammar is pretty weak, and the one class I had a lot of problems with, even though my reading comprehension was very high. I do know for a fact that I need help with it. It needs to be redone sometime soon anyway.
Thank you,
Andy |

Answers. com defines clip as, "Any of various devices for gripping or holding things together; a clasp or fastener. A cartridge clip."
They define magazine as, "A compartment in some types of firearms, often a small detachable box, in which cartridges are held to be fed into the firing chamber."
I was in the military in the 60's, and trained on an M14 carbine. I don't recall ever hearing this item referred to as anything but a clip, but that was a long time ago.
Seems it all may be an issue of semantics, no? |

I find that often there is two names and terms used to name one thing.
I seem to find that a small magazine is called a clip and a large magazine is called a mag.
I seem to find that to be common use.

To be faithful, Steyr calls it a magazine in their official documents, but also refers to it as a cartridge. I agree that it is not a clip though. Certainly a different animal, but it is a very different type of magazine as well. I may have to change the descriptions in the glossary for sure. I know I adopted the name clip though because it was already in use to describe this part. I am totally willing though to alter my usage, just so as I don't piss off any more military people I may argue though that with the electronics added it becomes more of a cartridge than a magazine though. There is no evidence how it was used in the movie, but I have a feeling it may have been used and idealized as a battery pack.

To be really specific, the Steyr SL uses a removable box magazine. (So does the Steyr AUG; they just look slightly different.)
http://www.steyrarms.com/store/index.php/magazines.html
The M1 Garand has an internal or fixed magazine. A cartridge is all the components (cartridge case, bullet, powder) assembled (aka a "round").
This is why I said I was swimming upstream. You can call it what you want and still be understood, but I prefer specificity (to my wife's chagrin). Please don't take this as some new guy barging in and saying, "You guys are all wrong."
I made this visual aid. Hope it helps.
I didn't realize it would become such an issue, but this is the cross I've chosen to die on. |

No offence taken. You are educating me, and helping me get rid of some bad habits, that will only help me communicate more effectively with others down the road on this. Thank you for that.

I think both are Hartford models, he also shows a subnose model.
I think it is a case of someone named Siraiwa showing off his Harford models.
Or offworld models which show up in the other videos...

It was my first thought, but the Hartford is based off of the S&W .38, this looks like it has a Charter Arms Bulldog base. If it wasn't for that I thought they could be using the Zospec Armory upgrades, but I am sure it isn't a Hartford. It does mention a S&W 36 for some reason in the Japanese text.
The other guns are not posted by the same you tube poster except for the Tomenosuke artists proof video. The snub is also the toy version, no Hartfords that I see. The other videos show up because they are a related topic, not because they are the same poster.

to Andy, & ALL of you Blade Runner fans (myself included).
This is for you. When you find your photo of your blaster, note it and i will add you to a "photo credit list" page which SHOULD be in this.
I "borrowed" all the pics from this site. Some I cleaned up or outlined.
I am NOT trying to take ANY credit for ANYONE's hard work.
ALL the text and research is Andy's work. AWSOME job by the way.
I just played art director/graphic desiner. "A picture is worth a thousand words"
Labor of love.
This has been broken down in to three sections as it is too large to up load as a single book.
THIS IS a "just for fun" project. NOT something too make cash from.
It was created using InDesign and is laid out as a 10.25 x 8.25 left to right page. the first page is the cover. (duh'o)
ps. IF I have offended ANYONE by using their photo's with out permission that was/is NOT my intention. This is just for your enjoyment.
best regards,
ocd

I'm curious as to interchangeable parts. And has anyone really got into
mixing & matching?
What pcs. fit on who's blaster?
I hear all day long, Off world is too lite, Sid kit is too heavy, this one rattles,
that one inaccurate... etc.
And w/ everyone talking about who "re-cased" who? & copied so n' so.
I figure you have to be able to built your own personal "perfect" gun.
Given you have the means & desire.
So who has more then one ? & who knows which ones fit together?
And the other thing, .44 vs. .357 who can fill in the blanks?
because I'm not even sure I'm right.
Coyle: .44 Sid: .357 OffWorld: .357 Tomenasuki: .44
What about the PK-D ? or even older/newer versions?
This stuff could be valuable info. _________________ Que la Force soit avec toi |

Here are MY answers to these questions:
Ozwepaie wrote: | I'm curious as to interchangeable parts. And has anyone really got into

{There has been a few threads here on mix and matching…search.}
{First: Sidkit recast my early Models.
Tomenosuke reverse engineered and copied one of my world con models.
I have proven these facts a number of times.
AND I feel that I have proven over and over my models are the most accurate, Tomenosuke made concessions (and inaccuracies) for mass production, and copies a couple of my early mistakes.
AND made a couple of their own…
Mistakes I have been fixing.}
So who has more then one ? & who knows which ones fit together?
And the other thing, .44 vs. .357 who can fill in the blanks?
because I'm not even sure I'm right.
{I am sure I was there with Karl when we photographed the REAL prop, and IT WAS a 44 Bulldog.}
Coyle: .44 Sid: .357 OffWorld: .357 Tomenasuki: .44
{To be fair: Sid copied my model and it was 44.}
What about the PK-D ? or even older/newer versions?
{As there is no cylinder: the cal. Does not matter.}
This stuff could be valuable info. |
