I'm sure R13 made it look good to his eye
It looks good to mine.
I actually rather like it as it's been reborn, reminiscent of the 'Spinner' logo in many ways.
Same DNA.

Beautiful. I like this even more than my mk1 box. Is this design a one-off? Tempted to jump in on this run if it's the last chance to pick up a "bronze"! |

I have enough compnents on order/being made for 12 boxes.
There are now 11 parties on the list. Hirohawa was added this morning.
The amount of time this takes, and the amount of hassle each box is, I doubt I'll be doing any more soon.
I'm at a particularly hectic time workwise, the culmination of 10 years work, and am flying back and forth between London and Sofia (Bulgaria) regularly. This frequency will increase in the near future.
With regard to this run, I'll get them done as soon as humanly possible given the weather condtions and workload. Please watch the thread for updates and progress.
I really don't want to be accused of failing to deliver on time again.
I'm not saying when exacly they'll be ready, but it will be as soon as I can finish them.

I could display the actual photo with my trace overlaid, but I see little point.
There also may well be some (very) subtle differences in how the etching takes to the metal, but there is little point in toying with this in hopes of pleasing everyone's eye. I tried to be as accurate as possible to the image I had, but make the appropriate corrections as Skin-job stated earlier.
That said, it is an interpretation. The original remains just that - being vintage was no doubt created by hand with pen and ink back in the mid 1900's, with all the related imperfections.
These new discs are meant as an representation, in keeping with the spirit of that original. Nothing more.

Personally,
I'm very happy wth the new badge.
We'll run with it.
It'll look great on the MK2 boxes.

Glad to hear the list is locked and that you'll be focusing on production!
Out of curiosity - will the boxes be numbered & signed? If not, I think you should - not out of vanity, but for authenticity, provenance, and retained value, in case someone decides to knock you off... |

Bwade Wanna,
I appreciate the thought, but in this environment security is an illusion.
I work in the film industry, where it is slightly less so.
If someone wanted to copy the design, there's little I could do other than name and shame them on the forums.
Thanks for the thought though.

A note with regard to the production of the boxes.
This is in the interest of my not wanting to be accused of failing to deliver on time.
The weather isn't ideal for staining and lacquering wood, won't be until spring. But I can do them anyway, it just takes longer to cure the finishes.
Many have commented on the colours of the stains. The boxes are stained three times, in three different colours to get that result. They are sealed and lacquered afterwards. The lacquer can take 10 days to cure properly.
At the moment, I'm gathering and preparing components. The work will start soon.
As I mentioned before, I'm at a strange place with work which requires that I travel a lot for the next few weeks and months. So, work will continue as fast as possible but I ask that you all bear with me a bit and let me get them done.
This is a large order and I'll likely finish and ship the first 6, then start the second 6. They will be shipped in the order of the list on post 1.
Here it is again.

FOR THE RECORD . . .
To be clear, nothing here is up for debate or open to changes at this point.
For anyone interested, here is the initial Steyr trace, before the sections were joined and filled. As you can see, the reference image was not quite a true circle, and the logo was even slightly off center within the medallion.
As I stated earlier, I am sure that the original would have been based on hand drawn artwork - the thickness of the concentric circles or their spacing was inconsistent as well. That, along with imperfections in the type, led to the need to "tweak" the artwork. - R13 _________________ Gosh, you've really got some nice toys here . . . |

I'm away on a work trip the rest of this week. Components have been ordered and are being made/modified.
More when I get back.

Small update,
Just got back to London at 5AM this morning.
I'm only here for a couple of days then away again for most of the next two to three weeks.
I'm developing a film project witha European studio and have to fly back and forth a lot.
I am committed to the blaster box project, and I will get the boxes done. Most of you know my word is good.
The remainder of the components ordered will continue to come in, as will the newly copper plated steel corners, etc.
Bear with me, we'll get there. But perhaps not as soon as I, or indeed many of you, would like.
It'll happen.

Thanks,
I will get them done, I siad I would.
I have a great deal of money invested in the components, plus I really like the project.
It will be at least another two weeks until the copper plated steel corners are ready the platers tell me. They got held up with staff shortages due to the weather.
More news as it happens.
Stay with it.
