|
|
We are proud to announce that we just started to work on a new build of a VK machine. It will be a collaboration project made by Framed (Jeroen) and Black Lemon (Ray), both prop builders from the Netherlands.
Before we started, we talked a lot and of course searched for references like photos and of course watched some scenes from the movie itself.
We decided to invest in a good working 3D-printer, last week it arrived!
https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/3d-printers/180-original-prusa-i3-mk3-kit.html
We could really not wait to print our first part, but of course we had nothing at that moment. We found this model:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3643103
It is not screen accurate, but at least we could play with the printer.
Here are some pics from the printing process:
The two parts are glued together using aceton, and here is the end-result:
Again: this is just a model we found on Thingiverse, funny enough my 3 year old son found it and thought it was a whistle!
If there are people here who would like to help us finding good reference photos, measurements or even 3d-models, don't hesitate to answer to this post.
Keep you informed,
Framed & Black Lemon _________________ always a pleasure |

That is pretty cool. Almost enough to motivate me to look into 3D printing. |

While I'm not considering myself like the "only" source of info pertaining to the V.K. machine prop (even if I've built 2 of those), others have contributed greatly to the development of the prop (Tom Southwell with his throve of original production pics, as well as Bwood).
I did some leg work by contacting Mike Fink and asking for measurement (alas, it was a 3 day rush job in the end and so long ago that he didn't remember the details of that build). The only original member we haven't contacted yet is Mark Stetson).
Also, Colin, one of our member, did excellent research for his V.K. project (the original blue-print of the machine were sold not long ago) his ideas and imput were and are still invaluable.
I cannot gloss-over the build that a famous re-caster did on our pages; it was well made and well researched and, despite his reputation, the best reproduction of that elusive prop.
As you can see, plenty of pics and info have been gathered along the years and are easely available on the Summit |

Thanks Joberg,
I also read that you posted this a while ago:
-------
I did a blueprint of the machine this week-end and here's my measurements, in cm first, inches are in parentheses (front elevation only!)
Total length: 39 cm (15" 1/4).
Total width: 31 1/2 cm ( 12" 3/. Not part of the front elevation, but necessary for the overall measurement of the machine.
Total height: (from top bar to bottom , minus the feet) 11 1/2 cm (4" 1/2).
Total height of the big screen: 7 cm (2" 3/4).
Total width of the big screen: 9 cm (3" 1/2).
Total height of the front recessed space: 4 1/2 cm ( 1" 3/4).
Total height of the button (squares): 19 mm (almost a half inch).
Total height of the V.K. logo: 4 1/2 cm (1"3/4).
Total width of the V.K. logo: 3 1/2 cm (1" 3/.
Total height of the half moon drawer: 1 1/2 cm ( 1/4").
Total width of the half moon drawer: 9 1/2 cm ( 3" 3/4).
Total height of the 2 screen box+base, front elevation: 5 cm (2").
Total width of the 2 screen box, front elevation: 14 cm (5" 1/2).
Total height of 1 small screen: 4 cm ( 1" 1/2).
Total width of 1 small screen: 6 cm ( 2" 3/.
Total height of 1 top button on 2 screen box: 7 mm ( 1/4").
Total width of 1 top button on 2 screen box: 3 cm (1" 1/.
Total height of 1 small button on 2 screen box: 7 mm ( 1/4").
Total width of 1 small button on 2 screen box: 1 cm (3/8").
------
Do other builders agree to these measurements?

That's sounds about right...and you've asked the dangerous question: "are other builders agree with these measurement?"
That's the $20.000 question
I think that, generally, there's is a general agreement (at Propsummit) these are pretty close to the real prop. Unless, someone, somewhere has the original blue-print , or the prop itself, this is as close we can be.
If we could have the info about the small screens (brand, size, etc) we could make a better assessment of the overall size...but it remains a mystery.
Or the big screen used in the prop...again: a mystery.
The V.K. logo that Tom Southwell did (and the size) was the closest info we had/have. From that, we can expect a "closer" prop.
As you can see; not an easy prop to reproduce. |

Such a precise measurement!
I take it that measurement is calculated from the plans which Propstore sold?
But it got me thinking again about the size of Voight Kampff machine.

It's not calculated from the Propstore plans
It wasn't an attempt to come off as "mysterious". But there's a limit to how much I can put out here. I've been presented with some very compelling evidence from a reliable source. This measurement is solid. _________________ Monsieur, azonnal kövessen engem bitte |

Indeed, since even Mike Fink couldn't remember the exact measurements of that prop |

True that, the eye part (shaver's grill) is already a very good start |
