Masao
The HAL kit has pros and cons features:
Pros: Same measurements as the screen-used one.
The Nikkor lens is better.
Lens is good.
Decal + logo is very good too.
Cons: When possible, a real glass lens should be used. Nothing replaces
real glass.
The grill doesn't respect the one seen in the movie. The holes should
be on "hills" of the grill and not on the "valleys".
The frame around the whole thing doesn't have the slight bevel of
the original.
As for the Moonbus; it's an entire scratch build respecting the Studio Scale size: 34" long X 12" X 11"

Thanks.
I just found the posts about your scratch build. Nicely done. I was wondering why it looks different from the other models I had seen. Now I know.
I'll have to study the grill a bit so I can replace mine properly. Do you know of any suppliers of the grill mesh? |

Thanks...as for the grill; there's a thread on the RPF on HAL only (Neil, aka Nth).
There's a debate as to how that grill was made...is it a found grill (off a radio/T.V. or other?)
Was it made, from scratch and in aluminium, by one of the talented prop makers at the studio?
Was it made using a simple corrugated plastic parts that was readily available at the time (as well as now)?
The last two are work intensive: lots of holes to drill (about a half hour of work at least). There were several HAL made for the film and placed in different sets also.
