While that sounds pretty good, I imagine that using taps would be ideal for parts like the cylinder arm where the side plate attaches. Among the extra parts that were tossed in with my kit, there was a second cylinder arm snapped in two where the screws secure the plate. |

What Kurtyboy is getting at is that the metal is so very soft, that you can just use the drill, but not the tap itself. The screws you put in the holes will cut their own threads as they are screwed in. Often with these kits, tapping the threads leaves so little of the metal around the screw thread, that it strips out very easily.
I would follow his advice.....

THAT is true with Sid's softer metal BUT with mine you will want to tap.
MY Metal is harder that my Urethane which I have been tapping for over 35 years.
My metal is 80+TIN, not lead.
To try to force a screw to self tap in either of my plastic or metal will often cause more damage that good.

Fair enough. My local hardware stores, both large and small, have failed me as far as having a range of tap sizes appropriate. For the most part, however, many of the sidkit parts are already drilled and threaded so I might be able to get away with just ordering the tap sizes needed to fix up the new grip assembly.
I haven't touched the grip frames or grips themselves yet, but most other parts have been cleaned up for assembly. Tuesday will be mostly focusing on the grip assembly and after that, there's nothing left to do but put it together.
Thanks everyone for the advice and answers so far, and for being patient with me being a newb struggling to wrap my head around this build. |

Ugh... yet another setback.
Drill bit broke off in the bottom of the outer grip frame. Gonna be a fun fix for sure. |

Damn I did warn you:
Note tip: Drill a little and pull out and clean your drill bit, a build up on your drill bit and tap can jam it up and then break off in the hole.
Also use taping oil.
