Of course, never thought about that shot technically before, it makes obvious sense now that you point it out. Until recently i always thought
Bretts patch was the darker colour because of that shot, never noticed that it was the lighter blue in everything else
Thanks Karl. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

That's right, Brett's cap patch is the lighter gray version.
Brett's actual jacket was on display at the infamous 2006 Worldcon... so look at these pics quick before I get a mysterious email from somebody... :rolleyes

Yeah Karl, already saw this great thread on the RPF a long time ago...
Just to add a little more confusion to Brett's cap patch (I agree, the right version is the light / blue one), here is the one that sold on the PROPSTORE... The photo of the prop just doesn't match the one they sold !!!
(but I don't say that this cap wasn't made for the movie since they already sold a prototype Dallas jacket, too) (and the scrambed eggs look like the real thing)

Phasepistol, the gag showing Brett's brain being impaled by the Alien's teeth/tongue would have been impossible to achieve with a regular patch or with a regular cap (to sturdy). A piece of the cap was cut out and on top of that hole the picture of the patch was applied as well. The gag could then proceed as expected. |

Sorry Phil, didn't realized that while ordering but I think it was the only one available... (but the colour is black, not blue like the sheriff's hat in OUTLAND) _________________ THE FUTURE IS A THING OF THE PAST |

Instead of splitting the topic I added to the title. there is cohesion to the thread and I figure it would be good to keep it together even though it has gone seriously off topic.

The other day I happened to find one of these patches in a local antiques/junk/collectibles shop. Just the patch, no cap or anything. I assume it's the Thinking Cap replica patch? What are the differences between TCC patches and the screenused costume patches, does anybody know?

Yep. It most likely is a Thinking Cap Company patch. Of course Intergalactic Trading Company seems to have taken their first batches of Thinking Cap patches and had them reproduced in order to keep selling them. many of the ones they have for sale now were most likely not made by Thinking Cap. They are pretty cheap to source out.
I have been meaning to compare all my patches to see if I could spot anything that could be a tell, but that would require me finding my original stuff and making sure those weren't copies themselves.
As far as telling the screen used ones, somebody with a screen used one would have to help out. It would be kind of Ironic if Thinking Cap somehow also made the screen used ones too.
On another note Karl, Did you get to meet Jeff Walker When you were taking photos of his collection? If so, did he seem pretty open and personable and perhaps be willing to help us crazy fans out? Or is it possible that someone got there before us and ruined any good will with the fan community?

I found a shot of Intergalactic Trading Company's copy of this patch... pretty rough, especially in the letters.
And I did in fact speak briefly to Jeff Walker. I found him quite pleasant and personable. I have no idea about how his attitudes may or ma¥ not have changed since then, I haven't kept in touch.

I was just speculating about his current attitude. He may have no feeling what so ever about talking to us. I may try again to get in contact with him. I have a feeling that my previous contact help is of no use though. I am sure he got a lot of unwanted attention after that show, but a lot of time has past. I think I may also have to find another topic to use as a way of getting him to want to talk with me.

You can really see the difference between the work being produced today versus work from the past. Quality and detail seem to be on a downward path. Much like clothing. Soon we'll all be wearing bed sheets.
Sorry for the rant and to getting off topic. It just burns me up. |

You can still find quality work, just not for that price.

Its very hard to go off topic here, its all off topic
It all helps my cause in finding the mythical, licenced Nostromo crew jacket as the thinking cap stuff is the same era, i ordered my hat and jacket around the same time.
Its kinda worked already but that news will come in January.
If Deckard can find one women out of 110 million people with nothing more than a snake scale, theres hope for this thread _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

phase,
Cheers for the Brett jacket pics, youve given me a great idea.
Can you recall the exact colour of the jacket?
Again, a fine example of colour differentials, always thought it was classic military green with blue trimming.
It appears to be that classic goldy-green shade from the 70s with maroon trimming, is that the case? _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

I can't characterize it exactly, only to say it didn't seem as light or as "golden" in tone in person, as it does in the photos.
Shades of brown and green are very hard to pin down from photos. And different film and lighting, easily effect how they look to the viewer.
I wish I had stopped to take a gray-card shot of Brett's jacket but alas I didn't think of it. |

The following are pictures that were taken at the recent Down Under-
Itza Con.
It is the jacket worn by the drunken half brother of Brett,
Barry, whose duties on the ship were unknown to even Capt Dallas. This part was later written out of the finished movie.
It is believed that only five seconds of footage using Barry was ever shot.
This is the only known publicity still that ever made it out of the studio,
Sir Ridley Scott ordered all negatives destroyed. Here is veteran
French actor, Louis Bufont at the peak of his powers.........
Amazing stuff, most people would have never guessed that part of the bridge set had plaster walls and cheap wooden venitian blinds.
A mountain of thanks for this stupendous interpretation of the Nostromo
Crew Jacket Fred.
