By the time I found the RPF post all the pics were gone. I went nuts trying to find them, and finally stumbled onto the zip file. I can't even remember what site it was on, I was getting blurred vision from staring at the laptop for too long.
So another big thanks to Karl! _________________ If you're not BR Mafia, you're little people! |

I'm confused: is the 'worldcon' prop supposed to be the actual hero prop, or a Coyle build? I seem to see it referred to in both ways.
Also, there's that issue with the 'weaver' screw.... |

When we say "Worldcon" in the sense of "Worldcon photos", we mean the prop I photographed at Worldcon 2006, which is the actual hero gun from the film.
When we say somebody is doing a "Worldcon" replica, that means in the style of the hero blaster. So yes, Coyle was there at Worldcon too, he examined the prop, and his current version is a "Worldcon"-style blaster.
The Weaver knob does not appear to have been on the blaster at the start of filming, and nobody can find evidence of it being seen in the film. Perhaps it was added after production for whatever reason.

Now I don't want to open a can of worms or anything but how do we know with 100% certainty that this was the actual gun used in Blade Runner?
In other words, is there a possibility that it was a second prop, or a fan reproduction (Kovach grade) that dates back to the late 80s or something?
It certianly looks like *THE* gun to me; it matches everything (except the knob I guess) although I really think the prop owner should at the very least keep it clean...
Just wondering what proof is there that this is *the* gun.
Also, do we know who is the owner and how in the world he got it? |

Well in the year and a half or so since I took the photos, nobody has seriously theorized that this ISN'T the hero prop. Certainly there could have been more than one hero prop but nobody has suggested that either.
The owner, and yes I do know who it is, claims that this is "the" hero prop from the film, and I believe him. He was indeed in a position to have acquired the prop (and the others that he has in his collection) at the time the film was made.
Certainly this piece matches the one in the film down to the smallest detail, notably the pattern of scratches on the butt plate.
As to where the Weaver knob came from... well that's still a mystery.

Wow, looking at that photo the butt plate has barely any wear at all in all these years!
I think it's awesome that this gun surfaced after all this time. Reading back on this thread I see how you mention he didn't think there was that much interest for Blade Runner...
Thank for you taking all these photos and making them available for us to see! What I wouldn't give to hold that gun myself... I would have been tempted to run away with it! |

Hello,
I believe the hero blaster now resides in Seattle at the EMP Music Museum. This unique building also is home to the Science Fiction Hall Of Fame which also features the full sized "flying spinner" from BR.
Paul Allen was the founder of this facility but I could not say with any certainty that he directly owns these items, they are museum property or they are on loan from another collector. We owe Paul a great debt for preserving these artifacts and I can say from personal experience that he is “real people” and an all around great guy. |

The hero blaster is privately owned; the one in display at the EMP is not the hero blaster. |

I always believed that the World-Con gun was the 'hero', but that comparison photo there definitively "nails the coffin shut" on the idea that it isn't, IMO. |

How so?
Also, is there a "hero" blaster at Paul Allen's Seattle museum? I thought there was one of the all-black stunt guns there...

Hmm, from your response, I'm assuming that I was unclear. What I meant was, that the details on the World-Con gun, in comparison to the screen-used photo there, basically PROVE that they are one & the same. The scuffs & scratches on both buttplates are IDENTICAL.
Sorry 'bout the confusion. |

I thought you were trying to say there was no way the Worldcon was the same blaster.
But yes, every scratch matches. Whoa nellie!
