Hi Al
You said you were working with the Betty recently, what were you working on?
Is the Betty being used for something else?

I glued and pinned the main supports to the body. the engine and extension parts are going to be made out of Epoxy fiberglass so they will be very light, even so im going to make a small armature that will connect through to the internal support which will carry the weight.
Thanks for looking.
Al

Lookin' good so far...question: what is the major challenge in that model? Is it going to be articulated like the hero one in the movie, or are you contemplating a static option? |

Thanks.
I think the major challenge will be the cockpit, getting it to look right, its the main focus of the model. this one will be a static display. im thinking of doing a bigger one, and i might articulate the engines on that one.
I still need to form a few more layers on the cone to get the details and then i will start on the cockpit.
Thanks again guys. questions, comment feel free to ask.

Thanks for the reply; if you don't mind me asking: how big was the hero model? |

Lets see, the Length was about 51 inches and the width was about 72" 73" when the engines were fully extended. this is just a rough estimate from a quick measure we did. but give or take an inch or two its pretty darn close.

I started on the Cargo boxes. i used foam and skinned them in styrene. still need to smooth sand and re shoot the primer and scribe some panel lines, but its getting there. need to get some batteries for my camera the pics arent the greatest. the boxes are just taped in place for the pics. two down two to go.
Thanks Al

Looking very good...another question for you Al: what kind of foam are you using, and also what kind of glue could be safely used on that foam to affixe the plasti-card or Perspex? |

Im using Urethane foam. i get it from www.generalplastics.com
To glue it to the foam i use regular CA glue, what i do is i squeeze it on the foam, take a paper towel and wipe it on the foam to get an even coating then i place the styrene on and use accelerator around the edges to make sure its sealed up. works great, never had a problem. the other way to do it is to just vac form over the foam with your plastic and leave it there and add details to that. either way works. |

Thanks Al; I didn`t know you could vac-form over foam...I thought with the heat of the plastic and the pressure the foam would colllapse.
Great tips to improve my model-making endeavours |

You have to make sure the foam is urethane or balsa foam. you cant use the blue or pink poly insulation foam.

I started on the nose cone. real pain in the Butt. first layer is in 3 mm. and the other layers are in 1 mm. there are 4 levels on the cone each level has two layers. if that makes sense. when i get a little farther along it will be easier to see. Here is what i have so far. Questions, comments feel free.
Thanks Al
