I must say, I'm not surprised, the Japanese kits are usually far superior to any mass-produced stateside. Unfortunately.

As reference and in anticipation of Randy's kit, I ordered the FUJIMI Spinner kit. My only complaint is that (for whatever reason) they shifted the styrene from the blue of the protokit to white. Perhaps this was in anticipation of their later release of a pre-painted version. Ah, marketing!

Were it not for the efforts of Randy Cooper (and others), the US wouldn't have much to offer I fear. I compared the FUJIMI to a REVELL kit I had. It beat the latter hands down! But then, I think they meet different price points and are going after completely different segments of the market.

Yep, the Japanese know how to put a kit together, but as you said Rep13, it's crisp! I remember when I was building kits from a box how night & day they were from say an Airfix, Revell, Monogram, etc...

Yes - I remember my first Tamiya kit. It inspired my first diorama!

Not to rant, but I wish we would take more REAL pride in our products in the USA.

Perhaps if everyone had to actually sign their work . . . .

That's why I'm buying from the garage kit artists: from Rick Ross, Dave G. and Randy Cooper (and many others on the RPF and elsewhere).
Small runs, crisp (research and details). I don't mind paying more for quality

Yes. I agree. The chance to own a wonderful, handmade limited run Randy Cooper model is gonna be grand. I WILL buy Deckard's sedan from both places... for the film i am doing, and am chomping at the bit for my work to slow down enough to construct the 1/6 scale version.

ok... got some info on the FUJIMI kits... they DO NOT have a license to produce these kits and hence will not be exporting them to the States. I am a very unhappy man right now

HOOBYLINK is a secondary party, so it can ship them... but legitimate model shops in the USA will not be able to receive them from FUJIMI

To confirm -
When I first saw the Spinner kit on Hobby Link, I did some checking. SOMETIMES HLJ can actually be the more dependable and cheaper route, and Scott seems to be the first to list and offer them. Such was the case with the FUJIMI Spinner kit.

There are other sources, but the cost vary and you have to consider shipping, of course. Last year I was in a local hobby shop and asked - being sci-fi, they seemed less than interested, but also claimed to never have heard of such a kit even though they do have a few other Fujimi kits in stock. No doubt it's that licensing thing . . .

Hobby Link confirmed orders are shipping. The versions they offered were to have an added bonus (included with the first-release kits) - a miniature blaster - no scale indicated. I wonder if it will be comparable to the (very) limited miniatures Tomenosuke offered earlier(?)

Considering the detail of the Spinner kit (with its photo-etched brass Spinner emblem), I'm anxious to see what else this kit contains. But I am equally anxious to see what Randy Cooper does with his studio version.

Meanwhile I am continuing with my sculpts for the 1/12th Spinner . . .

Yep, Hobby link is great and often cheaper than a shop in the US which in itself is a secondary party. They also give you 3 shipping options including EMS, and FedEx. I have bought stuff from them usually for much less than what they go for on Ebay as well.

If you can get it for "distance shots" it'll be close to "hero model"...and that's a very good thing
