This was my first attempt at recreating the Spinner. Since I had access to some lettering available on the net, I simply made photocopies of the fonts, cut and applied them on the car. A few coats of clear sealant finished the look. The other fonts were from my stack of ''Letraset": to apply those you simply transfer them onto a piece of clear tape and apply the said tape on the car and voilà!

go down to ''previous news'' and look for the month of February the 18th 2007 and the title ''if you cannot buy it, build it''. Enjoy

next to a BR themed bar (with Ennis Tiles covering everything) a nice spinner hanging from the ceiling would really finish the look...

Thanks for the comments guys! As you know and from all the different projects done by members of this board; it is always a labor of love more than anything else. I spent about three and a half months building that Spinner including the LED lights (that we do not see in the pictures)lighting it. It is made out of balsa wood, cardboard, plastic and metal.
Deckard & Gaff are 12 inches tall and the car is approximatively 40''x 15''. I always make ''bigatures'' instead of miniatures that is why the space I have to display my models is getting smaller by the day

Yes SkinJob66 not accurate but a Spinner non-the-less and yes Offworld 66 I'm planning to do another one but first I have to buy a home to have more space and a workshop where I could do some vacu-forming (cause the wife likes her oven for cooking food only ). And yes, mold-making the tear-drop police light is in the plan...the thing is that the next one will be huge!

When you start your new vehicle, why not make it designed from the start for fiberglass molding(GRP?
Then your hard work can be duplicated a few dozen times for us each get one from you and thus cover your costs (and part of your time) by making a kit of it.
I'm very impressed that you made such a nice model in a great size that is perfect for display.
I can lay up the fiberglass if you make the master patterns. The patterns have to be moldable and be pullable from the molds, and I'd say you got a winner. No body's ever done it before.
I've made alot of big fiberglass kits and this would be a perfect project I might be able to help with if you'd like to work with a partner.
I'm afraid vacform would be flimsy compared to fiberglass, and I would steer that way. Treat it like a Corvette body.
It's not the difficulty of making the body, but for fans building the kit, (if you made one), but mounting it on the frame base and cockpit, and doing the windshield for most builders they might need it to be a strong fiberglass body that is part of the structural unit so once joined there is a solid surface for attaching lights, windows and paint.
Very exciting! Either way, I'll be looking to get one from you.

Thanks Ron for the kind words; but I'm afraid that in terms of mould making (rubber) I'm far from being a specialist.
Right now, the Spinner will remain that elusive model due to the technical (cost) of producing such a kit. Many tried before and many failed in their attempt. It was, for me, simply a challenge to see if I was capable to tackle such project, as I said in my previous post, the next one will be bigger and more screen accurate I just want to make sure I tidy up a few other projects before starting that one.

The biggest problem in moulding a Spinner , at whatever scale is the cost of the casting medium, mainly silicon rubber , and the fact that you must cast a suitable sized mold which will not deform out of shape once you take your positive piece out . £20 to £30 ( $35 to $45) is not an unusual proice to pay, and a 1:12 scale model will take about 15 to 20 kilos approx
Up the scale to say 1:6 and you unfortunately quadrouple the volume so it begins to get extremely costly to make and you end up having to charge a fortune to recover the costs even if you do a large run say 50 or 60 casts from a good set of molds , and by good I mean the quality of the silicon . I have been involved in building and restoring SCI-FI film and TV props for over 30 years and if ever anyone wanted a model built , I'd always say, pay for the mold and your model's free.

Yep Propsjonnyb; quite a few of BR's props/items are difficult to make, let alone to reproduce. I can think of a few things: the VK machine, the personal Vid-Phone and, of course, the Spinner.
If it's one of a kind you want to build, the work can be tricky at best, but when you want to do a limited run of any of those, you'll have to take some serious medication to plan, mold and finish said item
One guy on the RPF is doing just that (it's been 6 months now): got a list of 10 interested people for a 1:6 studio scale Spinner (with cockpit lights etc) took a $1000 deposit (cost of material only) and is now sweating bullet to complete the project
