|
|
Hi everyone,
Some of you may know of my run on the RPF for the steel, stainless steel and aluminum replacement barrels for the PKD Blaster kits. For the rest of you, I'm Ted, I'm a machinist and I like to make things. Things like steel parts for the PKD Blaster kits like Tomenosuke and Sidkit. Also some custom ones too... and other such things.
**production is complete**
Now some pics... For now, just the barrels. Later the cylinders too.
Steel Sidkit and Aluminum Tomenosuke barrels.
A Tomen-style custom barrel for a client that also wanted it Blued.
Machined finished Stainless Steel...
...and also a Polished Stainless barrel next to a machined finished blank that I made an oopsie on.
Hope you guys like.
Happy building!
Ted

I'm mildly interested in a metal barrel of some description but I'd need one finished the same way as the receiver (so I can weather it down in the same manner that they match).
Are these machined as 'tubes' or are they not completely drilled through, if you get what I mean. I wouldn't want to import anything that could be misinterpreted as a firearm part. |

if the receiver is blued, then the barrel can be blued as well. As for matching them up, it's possible, but a lot easier when you have both components to compare against. The cold blue for the steel can be made as dark as needed by just going through the process again. For things this exacting, unless I have a really good reference photo or actually have the receiver in hand, I would recommend you blue the steel yourself so the finish can be exactly where it needs to be. It's a VERY easy process that pretty much anyone can do if they have some cold water, steel wool and a sponge... and the Super Blue stuff of course.
These are machined from a solid piece of material. I bore them out to roughly 2.5" and there's no rifling. There might be a through hole for cap firing and smoke, but that's always a smaller diameter hole than the main bore, usually 6mm max. And just to make sure, the material I use is not suitable for an actual firearm.
When I ship them, they are declared as "metal toy parts", and so far, I haven't had any issues sending barrels all over the world.
I hope this helps. |

It's needed to match the standard Tomen with regards to finish (whatever that is!). |

So this arrived in the mail today... Thanks to David for getting it to me from the UK.
Plastic Tomenosuke cylinder.
and to answer the question about the if the blue matches up, here's the cold blued steel barrel I did yesterday without a reference for the tomen and the plastic tomen. They're very close.
Here's another angle.

Wow, you even put that large washer inside the cylinder so you can’t fit a real .44 SPL Round inside them? Interesting....
My bad, I just noticed only rhe barrel was custom and not the cylinder. Sorry about that! _________________ Damion: ogrotesque1 |

I may not be putting the washer in there, but I will be doing something so as to keep it legal. I still don't know what I'll do, but I'll figure something out. |

The Don Parker cylinders didn’t have the washer and he had no trouble sending them around the world. He sent me two here to the UK and they weren’t even opened for checking at the border. |

thanks for letting me know. It was a real pain to try and figure out what I could do. Everything I was considering was just making things more complicated. |

The replacement cylinder portion of this run is now in production.
If you want in on the run, a 50% deposit or full payment will be required. |

I've added the Bill Doran version of the PKD Blaster to the list. If you have the Doran version and want a metal barrel or cylinder, I now offer them. |

Can I get in on this?
I would like a Blued Barrel and Cylinder for the Tomenosuke. Can the Cold Blue barrel and cylinder be polished a bit?

Yea, you can still get in on this. Just follow the instructions posted above.
By polished, do you mean before I blue it or after? If it's before, sure. If after I blue it, I don't know. I would assume no since polishing requires very fine abrasives. I know hitting a blued barrel with 600 grit wet/dry paper takes the blue off (when on a lathe at 700rpms). I usually hit the steel with some 600 and 1000 grit paper before I blue it, and while I blue it, between coats, I brighten it up with fine steel wool. It helps it, but far from mirror finished. If that's what you want, mirror finished, prior to blueing, there is a cost to it.
I have a dud blued barrel that I can try to hit with the polishing compound to see how the cold blue reacts to it.
However, giving it a coating of gun oil or a light 10w oil will gloss it up a bit. |

Great. I will probably just oil it then. I just want a slight shine. Just so it's not totally flat. I also might leave it as is.
When I get mine would it be possible to send a scrap piece with the same finish? That way I could experiment.
Will be in touch ASAP. _________________ Tom |

Sure, I can send you a scrap bit to experiment with. I can send it blued as well or bare steel.
Just make sure to include in the paypal note what it is you're ordering, how you want it finished and your propsummit name with a 'PS' prefix please. I need to keep things straight between the RPF, Propsummit and FB... |

Hey Teddz77, I thought I would chime in here. As others have said, I shipped a lot of cylinders overseas, as a matter of fact I'd say 75% of them went across the pond and I never had any of them seized by customs. I wouldn't worry, they should make it OK.
