been a while since I updated, so here's the skinny...
I'm off for the month and will be wrapping things up.
After the first few lathe ops...
Left side: Roughly 56 Tomen barrels
Right Side: 10 Anders/Doran barrels
Center: 46 Tomen cylinders
Behind the WD-40: 1 Sidkit blank, 1 Brass Tomen wrapped in a paper towel to protect the finish and a random dud test piece I've blued.
For those wondering, the aluminum can skins in the upper right are used to protect the machined surface from marring and scratches when I chuck them back on the lathe after turning to the correct OD, drilling the mounting holes and then boring them out.
Slugs for 26 more tomen cylinders and 35 more barrels for the Anders/Doran PKD versions.

It's been a while since I last updated this thread.
The production run for the steel cylinders is now complete. I have a stock of steel cylinders only. Once they're gone, that's it. no more. So if you want one, either drop me a pm here or email me at propsbyted@gmail.com
After scrapping 25 of them due to not checking my setup, I fixed the setup, made sure it was all dialed in and got to work making replacements. The first stages on the mill, after the lathe work, were the main holes in the body. The final stages were the catches and flutes. Here's the three stages of that...
Step 1: 8mm
step 2: 10mm x 2mm T-slot
Step 3: Flutes
The results...
Blue Prep:
against an original tomen
polished steel and stainless steel
stainless steel barrel fresh off the lathe. The colors are from the surface finish playing with the light.
And since I had the duds sitting around, someone recommended I use them as pen holders. So I have a very expensive lesson staring me in the face on my desk always reminding me to check my setups and tooling.

Wow Beautiful workmanship! Are you on therpf.com?
I know that there's a bunch of builders that would be your clients right now! |
