One of the easter eggs in the original Fallout was a handgun that looked suspiciously like Deckards's pistol.
Later into the game a particular side quest would reward you with Deckard's pistol, and it looked dead on accurate.
If I remember the description was something along the lines of "a .223 rifle that has been lovingly and carefully cut down into a pistol." That thing kicked butt on most weapons in the game. _________________
